Solar Technician - Residential and Light Commercial is a comprehensive training program focused on the installation and maintenance of both on-grid and off-grid solar systems. It includes essential skills related to project management, energy calculation and site assessment so as to create a highly versatile solar technician able to carry out the planning and installation of solar PV systems of up to 500 VDC. By the end of the course, trainees are well-versed in designing, sizing, installing, and maintaining a fully operational solar installation.
Upon completing this course, trainees are able to:
Understand and explain the complete process of solar energy harvesting using PV solar panels.
Determine optimal panel placement, tilt, and orientation
Direct DC current through specialized PV cabling to a solar controller and from there know how to either charge batteries and convert to AC power using an off-grid inverter or feed power directly into the grid with an on-grid inverter.
Track and manage the energy flow from solar generation to usage through the use of remote monitoring.
Learning hours: 100 hours including practical and theoretical assessment required for certification.
